Studying at the University of Sydney is arguably one of the most impactful events that has happened in my life. Deviating from the normal Hong Kong culture where studying extensively is considered the norm, I found the Australian culture places less emphasis on studying and more so on facilitating social interactions which can be seen in how my courses in University of Sydney are designed. For instance I found myself immersed in a lot of cases where interacting with professors and other students is encouraged, as it creates a more diverse and sustainable learning environment. This environment served as a catalyst to question myself and my beliefs, leading me to discover a version of myself I hadn’t met yet. The studious person I was or was perceived as in Hong Kong might not be a valued in Australia, teaching me the importance of interactions not only in university, but how interactions as a skill can be expandable and developed into my oncoming work life once I graduated university.
